Divine Justice Through Relentless, Unceasing Prayer

We all know what Divine justice is, but let me touch on relentless, unceasing prayer. ‘Relentless’ and ‘unceasing’ are similar words, but they describe different durations. ‘Relentless’ implies a short-term persistence in the face of obstacles, whereas ‘unceasing’ implies a continuous and uninterrupted effort. So the title refers to ushering in Divine Justice from Father God by persisting in prayer, regardless of challenges, for as long as it takes.

Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not become discouraged, saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect any person. Now there was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my opponent.’ For a while he was unwilling; but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect any person, yet because this widow is bothering me, I will give her justice; otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.’” And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge *said; now, will God not bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night, and will He delay long for them? I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” –Luke 18:1-8 NASB

I also want to point out the number 18, as the anchor Scripture for this lesson is from the book of Luke, chapter 18 and verses 1-8 (18). The number 18 means to be held in bondage and then set from it. Hence, the widow was in bondage by an oppressor, and the judge granted her justice and set her free. I want to encourage you on today, to engage in persistent, continuous prayer to God for justice, and He will set you free. Below is a paraphrase of the scripture by Abba’s Mission.

AM PARAPHRASIS (Luke 18:1-8, NASB):

Now Jesus was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart, saying: In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man. There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying: carry a judgment completely through, and fully administer justice to my accuser and adversary – the individual responsible for presenting evidence, making legal arguments, and attempting to prove my guilt, whose main objective is to construct a compelling case against me and persuade others of my wrongdoing.

Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow exerts pressure up-close-and-personal to me to bring this judgment forward, I will carry a judgment completely through, and fully administer justice, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.

And the Lord said, Hear what the unrighteous judge said. Now will not God bring a judgment that wholeheartedly embodies His core values and standards for his chosen ones who make an urgent distress call, summoning Him intensely, sorely needing a response and assistance to Him day and night, and He will postpone His anger upon their accuser? I tell you that He will swiftly, speedily, immediately and right away bring about a judgment that wholeheartedly embody His core values and standards for his chose ones.
